Keto Coffee: An Easy Bulletproof Latte Recipe (+ 3 Flavour Twists)

Bulletproof-style keto coffee is one of the easiest habits to start on a low-carb diet. It's creamy, filling and takes two minutes. Here's how to make it at home, plus a few flavour twists.

What is keto (bulletproof) coffee?

Keto coffee is coffee blended with fats such as butter, coconut oil or MCT oil instead of milk and sugar. The result is a frothy, latte-style drink with almost no carbs, which is why it's popular with people following keto or intermittent fasting routines.

Classic bulletproof latte recipe

You'll need

  • 250ml freshly brewed hot coffee
  • 1 tbsp unsalted grass-fed butter
  • 1 tbsp MCT oil or coconut oil
  • Pinch of cinnamon (optional)

Method

  1. Brew your coffee as normal.
  2. Add the butter and MCT oil.
  3. Blend for 15–20 seconds with a blender or milk frother until foamy.
  4. Pour, dust with cinnamon and enjoy.

The 30-second version

No blender, no butter, no mess. An instant keto latte powder already contains the coffee, MCTs and butter powder, so you just add hot water and stir.

3 flavour twists

  • Vanilla cinnamon: add a drop of vanilla extract and a pinch of cinnamon.
  • Mocha: stir in 1 tsp unsweetened cacao powder.
  • Iced latte: blend, then pour over ice with a splash of unsweetened almond milk.

Keto coffee tips

  • Start with a small amount of MCT oil (1 tsp) and build up, as it can upset some stomachs.
  • Avoid flavoured syrups, which are usually full of sugar.
  • Keto coffee is not a replacement for proper meals across the whole day.

Keto coffee FAQ

Does keto coffee break a fast?

Technically yes, as it contains calories. Some people still use it during intermittent fasting because it contains almost no carbs.

Can I use milk?

Regular milk contains carbs (lactose). Double cream or unsweetened almond milk are lower-carb options.

How much caffeine is in keto coffee?

The same as the coffee you use. Check the label of instant products for caffeine per serving.

Not suitable for children or pregnant women due to caffeine content. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied, balanced diet.
